When you plan days away in March you have no idea what the weather will offer you, but this day was sensational - crisp, with bright skies and views all round providing a wealth of inpsiration. Iain Banks wrote about Great Wee Roads and the road that winds down the west coast of Scotland from Lochinver to Achiltibuie is one such road. Not suitable for any large vehicles, it twists and turns, up and down steep little hills, single track with those lovely iconic passing places all the way - on a good day you get the most amazing views of the hills over and over again. It was late afternoon as we drove down, stopping so many times to admire the low warm light on the hills which seemed to glow - the late winter grasses and bracken were breathtaking. Such moments stay in your soul to remind you of the beauty that surrounds us. The view pictured shows Stac Pollaidh on the left and Ben Mor Coigach on the right. Stac Polliadh holds many special memories of laughs and friends and especially my first dog. I have had many visits to its multiple tops, and Ben Mor Coigach and Sgurr an Fhidhair was without doubt one of my favourite days walking.
